What is it?
Published by France-Russia Automotive, the Overview 2009 identifies the local manufacturers, the global manufacturers already established in Russia and projects; assembly plants running or being built; and local market players for automotive assembly. This overview was updated in February 2009. The publication is available in English and French.

For each company surveyed you will find
information related to its history, its partnerships, the progression of its
production, financial information... as well as the name, telephone and fax
numbers for the top management (emails are not suitable for a first contact in
Russia).
Here is below an abstract of information provided with the example of
the Taganrog plant, in the Southern part of Russia.

local holding, Doninvest, started building a factory in 1997 on the site
of an old tractor factory. The investment in the factory is estimated to
be over 320 million dollars. Its production capacity will be 120,000
cars per year. The Doninvest company is owned by the businessman,
Mikhaïl Paramonov. He is also the son-in-law of the governor of the
region in which the factory is located, Vladimir Tchoub. The TAGAZ
project has received significant fiscal and financial backing from the
regional and federal authorities.
The TAGAZ factory assembled nearly 10,000 Daewoo Lanos, Nubira and
Leganza cars between September 1998 and the end of 1999 under the
Doninvest brand using local model names. However, Daewoo's difficulties
brought this partnership to an end.
The factory assembled nearly 500 Citroen Berlingo between 2000 and 2002,
still under the TAGAZ brand. The factory has produced the Hyundai Accent
since 2002. Assembly started in SKD, but has been in CKD since April
2003. The factory has produced the Hyundai Sonata since April 2004. It
has produced the Hyundai Porter vans since May 2005. Hyundai Santa Fe
Classic four-wheel drive assembly started in April 2007.
TAGAZ complain regularly of insufficient supplies of assembly kits
supplied from the Hyundai’s Korean factories. The localization rate,
planned to be 50% in 2008, is no more than 27% according to local press.
The future of this partnership will depend on Hyundai projects (see)
which has started building its own factory at St Petersburg.
Tagaz also assembles the SsangYong 4 x 4 under its own branding and a
model from Chery. It also owns the ROAZ factory at Rostov that is
specialised in buses. The company has recently announced plans for
several factories with one more in the Rostov region and another at
Vladikavkaz in North Ossetia. However, the size of these projects and
their financial details are not yet known.
Tagaz has announced an extension of its partnership with the Chinese
Chery for several models which Avtotor (see) stopped assembling in 2008.
The vehicle will probably be assembled under Tagaz's own brand.
The production was near 56 000 units in 2006, 79 620 in 2007, 106 000 in
2008, according the company. Hyundai Accent represents two thirds of the
production.
